Chapter prose
The day the three suns of Prysmos crossed paths was the day the world changed again. Leoric stood atop the ruined watchtower, his blue-and-gold armor catching the last rays of the dying light, lion hologram flickering at his chest. Below, fields stretched to the horizon: the patchwork of life after the Age of Science. Leoric’s staff pulsed in his hand. He felt the ancient magic as something deeper than light—an old, patient force. The skin on his arms prickled. Cryotek’s heavy tread sounded behind him, with Witterquick and Galadria close. The eclipse was near complete, three suns braided into shadow, and the air itself held its breath. Then, a flash—a spear of cyan light shot from Leoric’s staff, racing down to a distant field. Wheat parted in a spiral, and at the center stood a kneeling figure: a farmer, hands to the earth, now bathed in magical light. “Did you see—?” Witterquick started. “I felt it choose,” Leoric said. He knew in his bones: the Staff of Light had elected a new bearer. They hurried to the field. The farmer rose, blinking, armor forming around him in blue-gold metallic curves, lion totem blooming on his chest. He looked up—bewildered, afraid, honored. “Why me?” the farmer whispered. Before Leoric could answer, the wind churned with a new sound: the Darkling Lords. Darkstorm, in purple-black, mollusk totem gleaming, and his cruel court, descending on hoverbikes scavenged from the past, magic lighting their path. Darkstorm’s eyes raked the scene. “How touching. A peasant crowned by chance. Hand over the staff, or I’ll take your whole crop as tribute.” Leoric stepped between them, voice calm but iron-strong. “The Light chooses by worth, not birth. Stand back, Darkstorm.” Cryotek’s enormous form shadowed the farmer, while Witterquick darted, ready to flank. Galadria drew her staff, the water-creature hologram sparking. Darkstorm laughed. “Honor after science? Let’s test it.” He raised his own staff, unleashing a wave of corrupting magic. The field withered in its path, the air souring, the farmer shrinking in fear. But Leoric shouted, “Remember what you are! The staff will answer!” The farmer, still trembling, planted his feet. He breathed deep, and the lion hologram burst from his chest—magnificent, roaring, a wall of cyan light that shattered Darkstorm’s magic. For a moment, Prysmos was silent. Then Darkstorm snarled, signaling retreat. “You’ve won a day, Spectral Knights. The night is long.” As the Darkling Lords vanished, the farmer knelt, offering the staff to Leoric—but Leoric shook his head. “Honor is what we do when power passes us by,” the knight said. “Keep it. Be more than I was.” The three suns parted. Light returned, gentler than before, and the field was whole again. Galadria smiled. “Even after the Age of Science, some things can still grow.” Leoric watched the new knight stand tall, staff in hand. The world had changed, but hope, too, had a bearer.
Original idea

Spectral Knights path: Leoric’s staff of light chooses a farmer instead of a knight after the three suns eclipse. Darkstorm’s court wants the totem. Honor after science means Leoric must protect a power that did not pick him.
